Viscous threads
We study the shape and dynamics of filaments made of very viscous oil.

First, we consider an initially horizontal thread, which deforms under the action of gravity.
Two very different shapes - catenary-like or U-like - are observed, and we look for the criterion that determines this shape.

In a second part, the viscous filaments are compressed or twisted. We observe different types of viscous buckling, which we compare to elastic buckling.
