The Ecole Superieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles of the
City of Paris (ESPCI) has a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Centre (NMR) devoted
to the study of Solids. Three upgrated
spectrometers (nominal frequencies 100, 300 & 500 MHz) are
available with numerous probes working at different frequencies. Specific
probes use the magic angle spinning (MAS) method. This enable
to observe a large variety of nucleus. This significant tool is perfectly
adapted to the analysis of the properties of materials both for fundamental
and applied research. The domain of application is very large from superconductors,
cements, concrete, composite materials, polymers, ceramics, catalysts & bioceramics.
Nuclear magnetic resonance spectra caracterize the electronic environment and
thus the chemical bounding of non nul spin nucleus
(1H, 13C, 17O, 23Na, 27Al, 29Si, 31P, 43Ca, etc...). It permits a description of the local
organisation and to analyse the local dynamic of a group of atoms. This
method is non only efficient for the determination of the atomic properties
of the materials but it also helps to understand some mecanical properties.
The last spectrometer, which was build by Bruker , was funded by the Region Ile-de-France, the City of Paris, the
IDEST, the Ministere de le Recherche, the LANGLOIS Foundation and the CNRS.
The NMR Centre of the ESPCI is devoted to fundamental and applied research.
By vocation, it serves the academic and industrial research community via
collaborations with the different groups
belonging the Ecole Supérieurede Physique et de Chimie Industrielles
de la Ville de PARIS (ESPCI).
This Centre is shared by the following groups
